Privacy policy
What Kataba collects, what it does not, and what the app on your iPad sends anywhere.
Who we are
This policy is issued by KATABA LLC (“Kataba”, “we”, “us”), 30 N Gould St. Ste. 34260, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States. It covers the Kataba iPad application and this website.

The Kataba app
The app is designed so that ordinary use sends nothing to us or to anyone else. We operate no servers that receive your learning data, and there is no account to create.
What stays on your device

Dictionary, lesson and reading content ships inside the app. Looking a word up, taking a lesson or reading a passage does not require a network connection and does not create a record anywhere but on your iPad.
What we do not do
- We do not operate user accounts and do not ask for your name, email address or phone number to use the app.
- We do not include analytics, crash-reporting or attribution SDKs.
- We do not show advertising and do not share anything with advertising networks.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- We do not upload your handwriting, your progress or your vocabulary.
Deleting the app from your iPad removes the data it stored there. Because nothing is held on our side, there is nothing further for us to delete.
The optional sentence-generation feature
Kataba can generate fresh practice sentences using an external language model. This is the only part of the app that uses the internet, and it does nothing until you enter your own Anthropic API key in Settings.
- The key is stored in your iPad’s Keychain. It is not sent to us and we have no way to read it.
- When you use the feature, your iPad sends the request — a prompt containing the vocabulary being practised — directly to Anthropic’s API. It does not pass through any server of ours.
- What Anthropic does with that request is governed by your own agreement with Anthropic and by their privacy policy, at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
- Removing the key in Settings stops the feature and deletes the key from the Keychain.
If you never enter a key, the app makes no network requests at all.
This website
This site is a brochure. We do not ask visitors to register, and we do not use it to profile you.
- Server logs. This site is hosted by Registered Agents Inc. through its subsidiary Epik LLC, as part of the business-identity service that also provides our registered agent. Their servers record ordinary web-server information — IP address, date and time, page requested, browser user-agent — for security and to keep the site running. We do not read, query or analyse those logs. Retention is set by the host, whose privacy policy states only that information is kept for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal obligations; no fixed period is published.
- Cookies. The site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. WordPress may set a session or preference cookie if you leave a comment or log in to administer the site.
- Email. If you write to us, we keep your message and our reply so that we can follow up and keep a record of support history. Write to us if you would like that correspondence deleted.
Purchases and the App Store
Any purchase or download of Kataba is a transaction between you and Apple. Apple handles payment, receipts and refunds, and gives us only aggregate sales and territory reports that do not identify individual customers. Apple’s own handling of your data is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.
Children
Kataba is intended for adult and secondary-school learners and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — in practice the app collects none from anyone. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, write to us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export the personal information an organisation holds about you, and to object to certain processing. Because the app holds your learning data only on your own device and we operate no user database, in most cases there is nothing for us to produce beyond email correspondence.
To exercise any of these rights, or to ask what we hold, write to info@katabaeducation.com. We respond within 30 days.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes affecting the app will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
